Grand Opening, Giant Tiger Store, Regina

Points West was pleased to assist Giant Tiger Stores and The North West Company with the opening of the first Giant Tiger store in Saskatchewan, in Regina, in June, 2003. Points West provided liaison with the media, sending out media releases, giving advice on media coverage and arranging interviews for The North West Company president Edward S. Kennedy. Interviews were set up with two Regina radio stations and The Leader Post. The evening before the official opening, Points West facilitated a photo shoot between The Leader Post and Mr. Kennedy with the result that a large photo of the store appeared in print on opening day along with an article about the store using extensive quotes from the interview with Mr. Kennedy. Points West also facilitated an article about the opening in Saskatchewan Business magazine.

The opening was judged a success with some 7,000 shoppers in attendance on the opening day. Dave Thorpe, Director of Marketing for Giant Tiger Stores Limited, called the turnout "fantastic". He said in an e-mail to Points West Vice-President Verna Thompson, who handled the event, "We couldn't have done it without your help."
