2007 Summer Universiade

Points West Consulting is part of a team designing Canada's bid for the 2007 Summer World University Games in Saskatoon.

Points West Senior Vice-President Bill Peterson is a member of the 2007 Universiade Organizing Committee and is involved in development of Saskatoon's strategy to win the Games, including preparation of the formal bid. Built around the theme of "The Canadian Advantage," a 240-page glossy Bid Book has already been produced and presented to the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the governing body of the Universiade. The Bid Book, which highlights Saskatoon's plans for two Athletes' Villages, a new riverbank Centennial Park and several facility improvements to complement existing sports venues, was presented to FISU in Brussels, Belgium earlier this year and is currently being distributed to FISU delegates around the world. Experiencing Aboriginal culture, safety and security of Games participants and developing a higher international profile for the Games are the pillars on which the Saskatoon Bid is built. Specifically, Points West is assisting with creation of a branding strategy which will deliver increased worldwide television audiences and generate increased broadcast revenues for FISU.

FISU will conduct a site inspection in Saskatoon later this year, with a decision on the site of the 2007 Universiade to be announced in January, 2003.

The University Games, last held on Canadian soil at Edmonton in 1983, will draw 4,000 athletes and 2,000 officials to Saskatoon from more than 130 countries.
